An updated strategic framework for European cooperation in education and training
European Commission (December 2008)

In its strategic vision for co-operation between EU Member States on the reform of their education and training systems, the European Commission identifies both immediate priorities and long-term challenges and suggests improved tools to meet them.

European education and training systems need to be reformed to better prepare people to find job and to help business find staff with the right skills to lead innovation. While the responsibility for education and training lies with national governments, some changes are common to all EU countries and some goals will be easier to achieve with countries learning from each other. The focus is on exchanging good practice and developing common tools to be adapted to the specific needs of each country.

The Commission suggests reviewing current benchmarks in order to consider more key areas such as tertiary education attainment, employability and student mobility.
